Cultural Awareness through Art - Joan Chapman

Joan Chapman is Woodbrook's art teacher.  Joan has a self portrait of every child in the form of a rainbow posted in the school hallway.  She also asked every student at Woodbrook to draw a picture of their home.  With student work, she created a community bulletin board.  These projects show the diversity of life experiences within our school community and also serve as excellent examples of taking the initiative to cultivate the home school connection.

This is one of the most amazing pieces of collective art I have had the opportunity to view in a school!
As I walk past it each morning, I am reminded of the unique and wonderful things that each of our students bring to this little building of ours.
I would love to see this become a piece that stays here until the PreSchool students graduate.

Imagine, coming back each year and seeing "you"!
Thanks Joan for seeing the beauty in each individual child and showing how we are even more beautiful together!

I enjoy searching through the rainbow of faces trying to identify the children. Fascinating to see how each student projects their self on paper as well. Beautiful bulletin board!
